How to Become Moon Cycle Wise to Empower Feminine Energy
I have always enjoyed gazing at the moon but never knew that doing this actually has therapeutic benefits. Before the electric light bulb was invented, the moon naturally had more effect on women’s menstrual cycles. In years past, women usually ovulated during the full moon and got their period around the new moon. Today women have forgotten the connection between the moon and their cycles.
Our menstrual cycles are 29 days on average and the moon goes through a lunar cycle about every 29 days. Coincidence? I don’t think so. Just last month, it dawned on me that I was looking up at the full moon, and I was ovulating. Finally, my experiment with Lunaception worked and I was now “in sync” with the moon!
A few months ago I was looking for a natural way to regulate my menstrual cycle, and start ovulating and I came across Louise Lacey’s book Lunaception. Lunaception is the idea that our menstrual cycles are meant to follow moon cycles. Once our menstrual cycles are in sync with lunar cycles, hormones will become balanced, and we can know when we are most fertile. Women can use Lunaception to avoid intercourse during the 3 days of the full moon when they are ovulating.
The moonlight actually regulates our menstrual cycles. How cool!
What you do is sleep in a completely pitch black room for most of the month (no nightlights, electronic lights, or light coming in from windows) and then for the 3 days around the full moon, look at the moon and open your shade so moonlight comes in. If moonlight doesn’t come in your window, leave a light on in your bedroom. The magic of this is that the light tells your pituitary gland to stimulate ovulation.
Sleeping in total darkness allows your pineal gland to produce enough melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that is almost only produced at night. In 2-3 months your irregular menstrual cycle will be history.
Getting room darkening shades or very thick curtains is recommended, however, my attempts at darkening my bedroom were futile because my wife wouldn’t agree to room darkening shades or covering our bright alarm clock. So I am using one of those padded sleep masks that lets in no light, it works (almost) perfectly except sometimes I rip it off in the early morning.
Clinical research gardenoffertility.com has shown that sleeping in total darkness for all but 3 days of the full moon time:
-Increases healthy cervical mucous
-Regulates FSH levels
-Decreases peri-menopausal symptoms like hot flashes
-Shortens or lengthens the menstrual cycle so it is closer to a 28-30 day cycle
Women have always had a magical connection to moon cycles. Mother Mary is usually shown standing on a crescent moon. Just like the moon goes through different phases each month, our bodies go through the monthly phases of pre-ovulation, ovulation, pre-menstruation, and menstruation.
Becoming moon cycle wise is about loving ourselves, honoring our moon cycles as women, and nurturing a balance of emotion and strength. Lunar energy empowers our feminine energy.
